Biography

Charles Baran
is the recipient of the 2016 MAC Award for Best Male Debut Performer for his one man show Recipes for Disaster! performed at The Metropolitan Room in New York City.  A native New Yorker, Charles began his performing career at the age of 50.  Since that time he has appeared in many Off-Off-Broadway productions, summer theater and webseries.  Some of his favorite NY stage roles are Larry Foreman in The Cradle Will Rock at Theater 80 St. Marks, Geoffrey in the new comedy Geoffrey and Jeffrey in the Thespis Festival at Cabrini Rep (nominated or 2013 Best Actor Award), a featured role in Harold Rome’s Pins and Needles at Theater 80 St. Marks and LaMama, The Kingdom at Mabou Mines, Walkabout Yeolha at Columbia Stages, Clyde Tolson in The File on J. Edgar Hoover in the 2013 Fresh Fruit Festival, Emmett Watson in Juan and Emmett, Burke Kendall in 2013’s revival of Stand Up Tragedy, George Gimbel in Uncle Giff’s Christmas Special at the Gene Frankel Theater and Sir Alfred Dooalot in the Off Broadway hit Fabulous The Musical.  Charles received another Best Actor nomination for his role as Artie Dunne in the 2014 Planet Connections Festival production of Gabrielle’s Fox’s new play The Home. His summer theater stage credits include Andrew McNair in Cortland Rep’s production of 1776 (2015), Mortimer in The Fantasticks at Allenberry Playhouse (2015) Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly at Interlakes Summer Theatre in Meredith New Hampshire (2014) and Mrs. Bumbrake in Peter and the Starcatcher at Winnipesaukee Playhouse (2016). His Cabaret work includes his solo shows Charles Baran’s Saint Valentine’s Day Massacred at Sophie’s on West 53rd Street, Songs for a New State of Mind and Recipes for Disaster both at The Metropolitan Room in NYC. Past film work includes Amos Posner’s independent short Perspective and Cristhian Andrew’s A Foreign Heart of Hope. Webseries roles include Watercooler Madness playing the role of Sam in a totally dysfunctional advertising agency and Melvin Xaxa a dimwit looser trying to succeed in The Demo Guy.    www.charlesbaran.com
